Apply for Food Stamps in Texas

The SNAP program, which was formerly known as Food Stamp Program, provides food assistance to low income residents of Texas. The program helps residents get food stamps in Texas by taking them through an application process once determined eligible. Food stamps in Texas are provided through the Lone Star Card, or the electronic debit card that deposits food stamp benefits each month based on family need.

Step I. Find out if you qualify. In order to qualify, you must be a Texas state resident, whose current checking/savings bank balance is $2,001 and under 3,0001 if you are living in a household with a person 60 years or older. The financial requirements go up for each additional member every $406 (for example, the maximum amount of monthly gross income cannot exceed $3200 for a family of six). Go their website (listed below) and use the virtual "screening tool" to determine whether you qualify.
