How to Apply for Food Stamps in Louisiana

The Louisiana Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides low-income individuals or families food they need to sustain proper health. The SNAP program transfers food assistance benefits to the electronic Louisiana Purchase EBT debit card. SNAP benefits are available on the 14th of each month by 5:00 a.m. allowing individuals to buy food at grocery stores or convenience shops displaying the Quest logo. Individuals must meet the income requirements and fill out a SNAP application to be considered for eligibility.

  1. Determine your eligibility. Understand that households must have no more than $2,000 in monthly assets and no more than $3,000 for households with disabled persons or adults over 60. All households in Louisiana must meet the gross and net monthly income level.
  2. Locate and click on the "Family Support" link on the Department of Social Services website. Click on the Office of Family Support's "Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (Food Stamps)" link under the headed section "Programs for Families." Access the "Application for Assistance" to download the SNAP application form.
  3. Print out the SNAP food stamp application. Use pertinent information and documents such as your social security number, last four check stubs or unemployment worksheet and any current bank statements to complete the application.
